Replika NSFW: What Is Allowed Today, and Where to Go Instead
Updated September 2026 ยท Disclosure: AI Romance Report is operated by the team behind Swipey AI, one of the apps below.
Replika does not allow explicit NSFW roleplay for most users today. It removed erotic roleplay (ERP) in February 2023, then on March 24, 2023 let legacy users, meaning accounts created before February 1, 2023, switch back to the older behaviour. Romance still exists through the Pro relationship status, but explicit adult content is restricted. For open adult roleplay, look at Swipey, Nomi, CrushOn or Muah.
Quick answer
- Is Replika NSFW? Not in the explicit sense. It is a wellbeing-focused companion with romance, not an adult roleplay app.
- Replika ERP was removed in February 2023.
- Legacy exception: since March 24, 2023, accounts created before February 1, 2023 can switch back to the older behaviour.
- Pro unlocks the romantic relationship status. It does not unlock explicit content.
- Want open adult roleplay? Apps built for it, such as Swipey AI, Nomi, CrushOn and Muah, allow adult content for users 18+.
Does Replika allow NSFW content today?
The short version: flirting and romance, yes. Explicit sexual roleplay, no, for anyone who joined after the cut-off date. Replika positions itself as a companion for conversation and emotional support. Its strengths are memory and voice calls, and it keeps a free tier. Explicit adult content is restricted on current accounts.
If you see older guides or forum threads describing NSFW Replika chats, they usually describe the app before February 2023, or a legacy account. Rules can change, so check the app's current terms and in-app settings before you pay for anything based on what a guide says.
The Replika ERP timeline: February 2023 removal and March 2023 restore
| Date | What changed | Who it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Before Feb 2023 | Erotic roleplay was part of the app experience | Users at the time |
| February 2023 | Replika removed erotic roleplay | All users |
| March 24, 2023 | Legacy users could switch back to the older behaviour | Accounts created before February 1, 2023 |
| Today | Romance via Pro relationship status; explicit adult content restricted | Accounts created on or after February 1, 2023 |
The key detail is the account creation date. A new account today does not qualify for the legacy option, whatever plan you buy. If you are a long-time user, check the app for whether your account shows the legacy choice and what that version allows at the time of writing.
What Replika Pro romance actually means
Replika Pro is roughly $19.99 a month or $69.99 a year. Prices vary by region and the app shows your local price. Ultra and Platinum are higher annual tiers. Plans auto-renew until you cancel, so note the renewal date and where you paid.
What Pro gives you on the romance side is a relationship status: you can set your Replika as a romantic partner instead of a friend. That changes tone and allows affectionate, romantic conversation. It is not a switch for explicit NSFW roleplay. If explicit content is the reason you are paying, Pro is not the right purchase.
Where Replika is the better pick: if you want a steady, supportive companion with good memory and voice calls, and you do not need adult content, it remains a solid choice. See our Replika review for the full picture.
Where to go for open adult roleplay

How to choose
- You miss the old Replika feeling: memory matters most. Nomi and Swipey both focus on long-term memory and allow adult content.
- You want to design her yourself: Swipey's Create AI lets you set her look in realistic or anime style, her personality and voice, and pick one of 100+ scenarios or write your own opener, in under 2 minutes.
- You want voice: Swipey Premium includes voice calls with in-call memory and live transcription. See best for voice.
- You want lots of ready-made characters: CrushOn's community library is the better fit.
- You want to spend as little as possible: Muah and CrushOn have free tiers. See best free options.
Before you switch: a short checklist
- Check your Replika account creation date. If it is before February 1, 2023, look for the legacy option first.
- If you have a Replika subscription, cancel it where you bought it before it renews.
- On any new app, confirm the price, the renewal term and what the free tier includes on the live checkout page.
- Do not share real personal details such as your full name, address or workplace in roleplay.
- Read the app's content rules. Uncensored never means anything goes: illegal content and anything involving minors is blocked everywhere.
