Filter Watch is our running record of what each AI companion app allows adults to do, how strict its filter is, and when that changes. We keep it because policy is the part of this category that shifts most without announcement, and because "does it allow NSFW?" is the first question most adults ask.

How to read this table
- Adult content means the app knowingly allows sexual or romantic content for verified adults. "Limited" means some romance, with restrictions.
- How strict describes what happens in practice when a conversation goes adult: a hard block, a soft redirect, or no filter.
- Every app keeps a floor. Even the most permissive apps block illegal content. Treat any app that claims "no limits at all" with suspicion.
The regulation backdrop
Rules are tightening from the outside too. New York and California have passed AI-companion laws, and apps are adding clearer disclosure that you are talking to an AI. Swipey AI shipped that disclosure work on 2 September 2026. Expect more age checks and disclosure screens across the category over the next year; we will log them here.
